China Sodium-Ion Battery Market to Flourish at a CAGR of Around 32.33% During 2026-32

The China sodium-ion battery market was valued at USD 0.22 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow from USD 0.27 billion in 2026 to USD 1.45 billion by 2032, registering a CAGR of 32.33% during 2026–2032. The market is gaining momentum as sodium-ion technology progresses from development and pilot projects toward commercial deployment across electric vehicles and stationary energy storage applications.

Rapid expansion of China's new energy vehicle market is creating a significant demand pool for sodium-ion batteries. During the first seven months of 2026, NEV sales reached 9.0 million units, increasing nearly 10% year on year, while NEVs represented more than 50% of cumulative new-car sales. Additionally, the February 2026 launch by CATL and Changan of a mass-produced passenger EV using sodium-ion batteries demonstrated accelerating commercialization, with CATL's Naxtra battery providing energy density of up to 175 Wh/kg and more than 400 km of range.

Furthermore, stationary energy storage remains a major growth driver as China's new-type energy-storage capacity reached 136 GW/351 GWh by the end of 2025. In parallel, CATL and HyperStrong signed a three-year, 60 GWh sodium-ion energy-storage agreement in April 2026, while CATL is adding 40 GWh of annual sodium-ion capacity at its Fuding base and has planned 160 GWh at its Jining facility. Consequently, expanding storage infrastructure is supporting the transition toward large-scale sodium-ion deployment.

Moreover, China's sodium-ion battery industry is witnessing rapid manufacturing and supply-chain expansion. The country shipped an estimated 8.1 GWh of sodium-ion batteries in 2025, up sharply from 3.7 GWh in 2024, with energy storage applications absorbing more than 60% of volume. The market remains moderately consolidated, with Ningbo Veken Technology, CATL, BYD, Jiangsu Highstar Power, and Tianneng Battery Group collectively accounting for approximately 73% of reported sodium-ion battery shipments. These trends are highlighted in the latest report, "China Sodium Ion Battery Market Analysis, 2026."

China Sodium-Ion Battery Market Highlights
